The PMD® Mill Detection system is completely automated and designed to measure the character of the charge within a mill for reasons of both control and maintenance. From a control perspective, PMD® has been shown to recognize a change in load between typically over 50 seconds before it can be identified using traditional techniques such as bearing pressure. From a maintenance perspective, the system is aggressive in its ability to detect steel on steel collisions and can, therefore, be used to proactively minimize wear and damage to the liners. Additionally, PMD® is used to recognize pinion related issues before they become significant enough to cause damage.
